Dr Dwayne C. Koopman is a General Practitioner from Upington in the Northern Cape who strives to provide top quality care and excellence to ensure the ultimate medical outcome for his patients. He places a high value on efficiency, competence and compassion when treating his patients.

After matriculating in 2005 from the Northern Cape High School in Kimberley, Dr Koopman qualified as a Medical Doctor acquiring his MBChB in 2013 from the University of the Free State. He acquired his Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in 2021 from the College of Medicine in South Africa – Dip. Obst. (SA)

Dr Koopman was a Medical Intern at the Kimberley Hospital Complex from January 2014 to December 2015. He was a Medical Officer and assisted in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Dr Harry Surtie Memorial Hospital in Upington from January 2016 to January 2022. He was part of Dr Isaacs and Associates private practice from February 2019 to January 2022.

The private practice of Dr Koopman was established in 2022 in Upington after more than nine years’ experience as a medical doctor with a special interest in Obstetrics.

The reason why he went into private practice was to expand and for personal development. Private practice has the potential to reach a broader community. There is also a need for qualified obstetricians in private healthcare where all available state of the art resources can be utilized when treating patients.

Dr Koopman decided to study medicine because it was his childhood dream and guidance from his Creator. Combining a passion for helping people as well as solving problems with a keen interest in the functioning of the human body, a medical study was a natural choice for Dr Koopman.

Dr Koopman is passionate about the miracle of a new life. Nothing gives him greater job satisfaction than celebrating the birth of a child with the parents.

He is an External Examiner (Obs & Gynae) for Stellenbosch University since January 2020 and works with the final year students that rotate in Upington’s exams. Coming from a family of teachers and university lectures, he also mentors the students in the hospital.

The practice of Dr Koopman is part of the Quadromed Group. Quadromed Group was established in 1996 in Upington and is currently shared by nine doctors on a stand-by basis for emergencies.
